The satirical novel by the eminent Czech writer Jaroslav Hasek covers events in Austria-Hungary before and during the First World War. At the center of the work is an extraordinary image of the soldier Schweik, the bearer of folk humor and common sense, who experiences many comic adventures. The work with great artistic power expresses the protest of ordinary people against war and violence.
